What is the CEBL and how does it operate?
The CEBL – which is short for the Canadian Elite Basketball League – has undergone a number of changes over the years, although that is only to be expected for a competition that has only recently been formed and brought to Canadians.
The league is typically played in the summer months of the year, with start dates having been as early as May and as late as July; depending on the number of CEBL teams that are competing in the competition that year. There is a regular season that is played, whilst there is a playoff system at the end that will represent the best teams who will then compete for the Championship following a single-elimination playoff bracket.
The 2022 season could be the biggest in regards to teams competing, as the CEBL standings can expect to comprise a total of 9 teams. This is an increase of the six that the tournament started with and the seven that has been involved in recent editions.
CEBL Teams
The CEBL standings will provide Canada basketball fans with the best action possible that they can see within their nation, whilst also seeing the best basketball Canada has to offer from natives as each team will be required to have at least 70% of their roster be formed of individuals from the country.
As mentioned, there are a total of nine teams scheduled to take place in the 2022 season, with the league having been able to expand across various provinces in the region. Ontario is the most populous in regards to the CEBL standings at the moment, with five teams scheduled to participate, whilst Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia & Saskatchewan are all represented by one team.
The Edmonton Stingers, though, has been the most successful franchise so far in the leagueβs infancy.
Are there any other events?
Perhaps due to its infancy, there are not any additional sporting events to be played in conjunction with the Canadian Elite Basketball League. However, there is probably some scope for more competitions to take place in the future.
For instance, the competition is recognised by Canada Basketball as its first division sports league, which could give the fans of Basketball Canada has to offer with the chance to experience the best action at home, especially as they are limited with their options with the NBA.
