The color of the Pittsburgh Steelers jersey is traditional black and yellow, although the team has been known to wear a white strip previously.

History

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a rich history and one that is known throughout the sporting world as being one of the most successful teams to have ever competed in the NFL, which we have outlined below in the ‘Honors’ section.

The team was founded in 1933 and is the seventh-oldest team to be in the NFL, however it is the oldest when breaking it down by conference and listing all the AFC teams to feature. However, there is a suggestion that the team could be older than the 1933 date.

The Pittsburgh Pirates had been established as an NFL team in 1933 and was owned by Art Rooney, with the ownership of the current Steelers team continuing to remain under that of the Rooney family.

Honors

As highlighted already, the Pittsburgh Steelers are considered to be one of the most successful teams in NFL history, with the franchise having won a number of titles since its inception.

Since the 1970 merger of the AFL and NFL to what the league is known today, the Steelers are one of the most successful sides in the modern Super Bowl era.

As of the end of the 2020 NFL season, they are tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl titles at six, and they have both played in (16 times) and hosted (11 times) more conference championship games than any other team in the NFL. The Steelers have also won eight AFC championships, tied with the Denver Broncos, but behind the Patriots’ record 11 AFC championships. The team is tied with the Broncos and Dallas Cowboys for the second-most Super Bowl appearances with eight.
