Background
The San Francisco 49ers are a member of the NFC West Division, meaning they compete in one of the hardest divisions in the whole of football. They will regularly compete with the likes of the Los Angeles Rams, the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks for a playoff berth, which is no easy feat.

The second half of the team’s name – “49ers” – was taken from the 1849 Gold Rush that was experienced in Northern California, with prospectors looking to find the gold that was available in the area.

They also rank 4th in playoff wins with 32, whereas they have been in the NFL playoffs a total of 26 times (as well as one appearance when part of the AAFC). These include the most consecutive away games won (18), most points scored in a single postseason (126), most consecutive seasons leading the league in scoring (4), most consecutive games scored (1979–2004), most field goals in a season (44), most games won in a season (18) along with most touchdowns (8) and points scored (55) in a Super Bowl.
